This interactive workshop led by Ewan Campbell, composer and judge of the Cambridge Young Composer of the Year Competition will include:
- General guidance on a range of composing techniques
- Advice on composing for the instruments to be used for this year’s Cambridge Young Composer of the Year competition – this year to include a harp!
- Full details of the 2016/17 competition, including announcement of the competition brief
The Workshop will take place on Wednesday 15 June, 2016, 4.30-6.30pm in the Recital Room, West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge.
Who can take part?
This event will be of particular interest to those intending to enter the next Cambridge Young Composer of the Year Competition. It is open to all young people aged 17 years and under on 31 August 2016.
Workshop leader: Ewan Campbell
Ewan studied musical composition at Cambridge University and at King’s College London. He teaches composition and analysis at Cambridge University and on the Aldeburgh Young Musician Scheme. His works have been performed across the UK and abroad by ensembles including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Britten Sinfonia, the Hermes Experiment, the Küss Quartet, the Fitzwilliam Quartet, recorder quintet Consortium5, Lontano and the Dr K Sextet.
The Workshop is run jointly by Cambridge Youth Music and Cambridge University's Music Education Outreach (CaMEO) department.

This year we have had to introduce a registration fee of £15 to help towards the cost of running the workshop. Please email Clare Gilmour, in confidence if this charge is a barrier for taking part.
