About CYM

Cambridge Youth Music (CYM) is a Charitable Trust launched in May 2005 by a group of local musicians and parents. The group has received a great deal of encouragement and support from individuals and organisations from across the city and the university. We are delighted that Evelyn Glennie OBE and Julian Lloyd Webber have agreed to become our Patrons.

CYM aims to:

- support opportunities for all young people to experience the joys of music, whether through playing, singing, composing, conducting or listening

- provide financial and other support to local operations with similar aims

Activities
CYM organises the Cambridge Young Musician of the Year and the Cambridge Young Composer of the Year competitions providing a platform for talented young musicians and composers in Cambridgeshire.

In 2009 it also ran a highly successful community composing project, involving around 60 children from two local primary schools. Led by acclaimed animateur Hannah Conway, the children created their own group compositions which they performed at a concert in Cambridge in April 2009. Further such projects are planned in the future.
